Zepbound contains tirzepatide (the same medication in Mounjaro), a powerful ingredient that works as both a GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. This dual action is what sets it apart and makes it more effective than the medications Ozempic and Wegovy.
How Does Zepbound Work?
- Reduces Hunger: Experience fewer cravings and reduced appetite, helping you to eat less and feel satisfied longer.
- Enhances Insulin Sensitivity: Improves how your body responds to insulin, a key factor in weight management.
- Controls Blood Glucose Levels: Helps keep your blood sugar levels stable, which is crucial for overall health and effective weight loss.
Zepbound has also been proven to lower your risk of heart attack, stroke, sleep apnea and death due to heart disease. The medication is taken once a week and injected under your skin.
Zepbound is used in the long term weight management for:
Adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or greater, or BMI of 27 kg.m2 or greater with weight related risk factors such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol.
Zepbound is a glucagaon-like peptide-1 agonist, and acts similarly to a hormone that your body naturally makes to help regulate your appetite. Zepbound is FDA-approved and has demonstrated its unmatched weight loss results in clinical trials (see SURMOUNT-1 study)
- Impressive Weight Loss: Clinical trials reveal that users can achieve up to a 25% reduction in body weight.
- Superior Performance: Zepbound has shown to outperform semaglutide, not only in weight reduction but also in improving hemoglobin A1C levels. This dual benefit means you can achieve your weight loss goals while also managing your blood sugar levels effectively.
Zepbound Dosing and Cost
You will first start zepbound at a low dose for a month. Typically, you’ll begin with a 2.5 mg dose taken weekly, which can be gradually increased each month. Your dose will gradually be increased to 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5mg or 15 mg, based on your healthcare provider’s recommendation. Zepbound is administered through a simple subcutaneous injection and is available in six different doses to suit your unique weight loss plan.
Zepbound is provided as a pre-filled pen for subcutaneous injection. The generic version is available in a syringe and typically requires you to pull up your own dose. The medication is typically administered once a week, at any time of the day, with or without food. The dosage and administration schedule should be determined by your doctor.
- Zepbound can be injected into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. The injection site should be rotated with each dose to avoid irritation.
- Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab before administration.
- Injection Process:
- Remove the cap from the pen.
- Pinch the skin at the injection site to create a fold.
- Insert the needle into the fold at a 90-degree angle.
- Press the button on the pen to deliver the dose. Hold the button down for about 10 seconds to ensure the full dose is administered.
- Withdraw the needle and apply gentle pressure to the injection site with a clean cotton ball or gauze. Do not rub the site
- Store unused Zepbound pens in the refrigerator between 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C). Do not freeze the medication.
- Once removed from the refrigerator, Zepbound can be kept at room temperature, up to 86°F (30°C), for a maximum of 21 days. Protect the pen from direct heat and light.
Understanding the cost of Zepbound is important. Out of pocket cost for Zepbound in the US can range from $1000 – $1500 per month, there are several ways to make it more affordable:
- Insurance Coverage: Check with your insurance provider to see if Zepbound is covered under your plan. Cost may be as low as $25 per month with insurance.
- Online Coupons: Look for online discounts and coupons that can significantly lower the cost. The Zepbound savings card can lower the price to $550 per month if you are eligible.
